Opportunity Description
Tokyo Institute of Technology International Graduate Program is now accepting application for Spring/Fall intake academic year. Students should be able to find a department in which to further their research, acquire broader knowledge and understanding, and conduct advanced long-term research in a field that best matches their interests, with a diverse group of 18 academic departments participating in this program.
This program has no Japanese language requirement because all lectures and seminars are given in English. Eligible international students with little or no Japanese language experience can enroll in Tokyo Tech’s Master’s, Doctoral, or Integrated Doctoral Education Program and pursue an advanced degree in Japan. Students, on the other hand, are offered regular opportunity to attend Japanese language sessions in order to better adjust to daily life in Japan.

Scholarships
- MEXT-SGU Scholarship: For master’s or doctorate students, the grant offers a monthly stipend of JPY 147,000 or JPY 148,000. The rules of the MEXT Scholarship program specify that this stipend is subject to modification. The MEXT does not cover travel costs. From October 2023 to March 2024, this scholarship will be awarded (6 months). Also, there will be no entrance or tuition costs due throughout the MEXT Scholarship (University Recommendation (SGU)) recipient’s time on the scholarship.
- JASSO Scholarship: The JPY 48 000 monthly award for this scholarship is variable as determined by JASSO. The payment period for this scholarship is from October 2023 to March 2024. (6 months). Even if they are awarded this scholarship, applicants are still need to pay the enrollment and tuition expenses. Please be aware that you cannot apply for this scholarship and any other award that does not accept numerous grants at the same time.
- ADB-JSP Scholarship (September intake only): The scholarship covers expenses like travel, health insurance, and others in addition to a monthly stipend of JPY 147,000 and annual stipends for books and theses of JPY 100,000 and JPY 50,000, respectively. Recipients of ADB-JSP scholarships are exempt from paying tuition and entry fees. The terms, conditions, and amounts of the scholarship may change at any time.

Eligibilities for Scholarships
MEXT-SGU Scholarship: Students currently enrolled at Tokyo Tech who have demonstrated excellence in their academic performance are eligible to apply for the Japanese Government (MEXT) Scholarship (University Recommendation (SGU)). Applicants for the scholarship must fulfill each of the requirements listed below:
- Possess citizenship in one of the nations MEXT has listed. (List of the MEXT nations)
- You must meet one of the following criteria about your academic achievement in relation to the degree you’re pursuing.
- Possess and maintain the resident status of “Student” for the duration of the scholarship period.
- English or Japanese language proficiency and fulfillment of specific requirements.
JASSO Scholarship: The Japan Student Services Organization (“JASSO”) offers overseas applicants who enroll at Tokyo Tech the opportunity to apply for the “Reservation Program for Monbukagakusho Honors Scholarship for Privately-Financed International Students by Pre-arrival Admission.”
- A scholarship that cannot be combined with other scholarships cannot be awarded to the applicant.
- When arriving in Japan, the applicant must be a “Student” resident.
- Allowance obtained by the applicant must be more than an average of 90,000 yen per month (excluding enrollment fees, tuition fees, etc.).
- If the applicant has a Japanese financial backer, their yearly income cannot exceed 5 million yen.
- The applicant’s proficiency in either Japanese or English must be greater than this level.
- Japanese EJU Over 200 in Japanese subjects, Japanese JLPT Level 1 or 2, or equivalent
- English CEFR level exceeding B2 (For example, TOEFL iBT over72, IELTS over 5.5, TOEIC L&R over 785)
- While applying for the International Graduate Program, the applicant must not be residing in Japan but rather abroad.
ADB-JSP Scholarship (September intake only):
- ADB offers scholarships to Master’s Program students for one year, with the option of continuing their studies into a second year, if necessary.
- This is contingent upon the scholar maintaining an acceptable level of performance as judged by Tokyo Tech.
- The award of a scholarship may last up to two years.
- It is highly advised to review the requirements for this scholarship before to applying, such as having at least two (2) years of full-time professional working experience (obtained after receiving a university degree).
- Candidates for this scholarship must submit the necessary paperwork online together with the IGP application materials (C). The following website and program page include formats for application documents.
- After the release of the selection results, successful candidates will be required to provide the original income certificates.
