Opportunity Description

OSCE Academy Scholarship in Bishkek has recently  initiated The Master of Arts and Liberal Sciences in Human Rights and Sustainability (MAHRS), which focuses on human rights and sustainability. Students from Afghanistan and other Central Asian countries can apply to this fully funded program.

Every year, up to 20-25 students will be selected through a highly competitive process to the MAHRS program. The MAHRS program is designed for young scholars and professionals from Afghanistan and Central Asian countries interested in studying international human rights law, good governance, and sustainability principles, norms, and standards, with a focus on the Central Asian region. We are looking for students with a strong work ethic who wish to expand their knowledge in political science, security studies, international relations, conflict prevention, international development studies, and good governance.

The European Union (EU) and the OSCE Academy in Bishkek sponsored  the program, which is implemented in collaboration with the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice. The MAHRS program is interdisciplinary, bridging international law, social sciences, and humanities. It will include internships for students in international organizations, think tanks, and CSO/NGOs related to their work.

Benefits OSCE Academy Scholarship for MA in Human Rights and Sustainability:

The program provides the following expenses:

  • full tuition fee waivers,
  • a stipend of 450 euros per month for 18 months,
  • round-trip travel to Bishkek (economy class),
  • medical insurance (except for citizens of Kyrgyzstan), and
  • funded internship opportunities in Europe for top GPA students.

Eligibility criteria:

To be eligible, applicants must:

  • You must have er5nmsuccessfully completed an academic degree of higher education (four-year BA, MA, Specialist Diploma) in a related academic field,
  • You must have an advanced level of English, and
  • You must be a citizen of one of the seven program countries of the Academy or any other participating State of the OSCE. (Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Afghanistan, and Mongolia).

Only successful candidates will be contacted for further testing and interviews. The program starts with introductory lectures on September 4th and 5th, 2023, and ends on February 28, 2025. The MA program is organized as full-time studies and requires students to travel and live in Bishkek.
