NIHSA is an acronym for the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency. It came into existence as a result of modification of the previously known Department of Hydrology and Hydrogeology of the Federal Ministry of Water Resources.
By the NIHSA Act 2010, it was created and signed into Law by the President on August 27 2010. The Act became a gazetted document of the Federal Republic of Nigeria No. 100, Vol.97 of 31st August 2010.
The purpose of creating the agency was to close the gap is lack existing in the provision of the vital hydrological data needed for adequate sustainable development. It is also responsible for assessment of water resources regarding quality, quantity, occurrence and availability in time and space.
Any time projects like borehole construction, dams, irrigation, water for supply, power generation, mining and agriculture as well as weirs is needed, NIHSA is responsible broadly for provision of all hydrological and hydrogeological parametric data needed for such project implementation.
Another important duty of NIHSA is to issue forecasts on floods, droughts, with view of enhancing adaption among residents in different geographical locations.

If you are applying for the NIHSA recruitment 2020, you must have the following in your possession;
- B.Sc, HND, NCE, OND in any discipline from a recognized institution
- West African School Certificate (WASC) or Senior Secondary School Certificate (SSSC) with Credits in not less than three (3) subjects including English and at least passes in two (2) other subjects; or
- A National Examination Council (NECO)/General Certificate of Education (GCE) Ordinary Level with passes in four (4) subjects obtained at one sitting or five (5) subjects obtained at two sittings including the English Language.)
- National Diploma (ND) obtained from a recognized institution. National Certificate of Education (NCE) from a recognized institution; or
- General Certificate of Education (Advanced Level) in two (2) subjects obtained at one sitting or three (3) subjects obtained at two sittings.
