Liverpool FC has welcomed Tottenham Hotspur back from the International break with a sluggish 2 – 1 defeat at the Wembley stadium, making it their fifth win in five matches this season.

Liverpool FC which tops the league with 15 points and a whooping 11 goals advantage has handed Tottenham Hotspur their second defeat this season in the 2018/2019 English premier League after Hotspur received a shocking 2 – 1 defeat away to Watford on Sunday, 2nd September 2018.

Early goal from Firmino was ruled offside as Mane was seen to have interfered with the ball. Afterwards, there were many  goal chances created and missed by both teams until the 39th minute when a rebounced cross was headed across the goal line by Wijnaldum even after Vorm had done his best to save the ball.

Mane and Salah had more opportunities to double the lead at different intervals but ran out of luck until the 54th minute when Firmino received a low scrambled cross from Mane and hit it hard into the empty net to make it 2 – 0.

Though Tottenham had a good possession of 61% as against 39% for Liverpool FC, it took them until the 93rd minute when Lamela chested down a cross and left-footed the ball low into the net.

Other relevant statistics of the match include;

Total shots (Tot 11 – 17 Liv), Shots on target (Tot 3 – 10 Liv), offsides (Tot 3- 2), corners (5 – 4), passes (Tot 548 – 356 Liv).

This win has given Liverpool FC a straight five wins in their last five matches, winning the last three with a slim goal difference whereas Tottenham FC has lost two of their last five matches recording a huge win over Manchester United with 3 – 0 on 27th August, 2018.

Liverpool is to face PSG while Tottenham is to face Inter Milan in the 2018/2019 champions league on Tuesday, 18th September 2018.
