Kofi Annan, the former Secretary General of United Nations dies at the age of 80. This was as received from his foundation on Saturday, 18th August, 2018.
KOFI ANNAN DEAD – AFRICA CRIES
The former UN Secretary-General, Kofi Annan who was also a Nobel Lauret winner has given up the ghost yesterday in the early hours, 18th August, 2018 in the hospital at Bern, Switzerland.
The announcement of his peaceful death was made in Geneva by the kofi Annan Foundation with intense sadness. Before his demise, he was said to have endured a short illness amidst his second wife, Nene and three children, Ama, Kojo and Nina.
Kofi Annan was a two term UN Secretary-General in New York city from the year 1997 – 2006 when he retired and later went to live in a village in Swiss.
According to the UN Secretary-General, Antonio Guterres, Kofi Annan was an outstanding leader who was deeply engrossed in the activities of the United Nations even at old age.
He was quoted to have said on his 80th birthday, ” The United Nations Organization is not a perfect body, rather, it needs continuous improvement. Even if it didn’t exist, we would have created it“.
Kofi was a great Ghanaian philanthropist who was born on 8th April, 1938 and died on 18th August, 2018 which is exactly 80 years, 4 months and 10 days after his birth.
According to his second wife, Nene, who revealed how the great hero died, she said in quote ” My husband, Kofi died peacefully in his sleep after a brief illness“.
According to the Ghanaian presidency which wrote ” The Government and people of Ghana, First Lady Rebecca and I are deeply saddened by the news of the death of our greatest compatriot, Mr. Kofi Annan.
I on behalf of the people of Ghana extend our sincere heartfelt condolences to his beloved widow, Nene, and to his devoted Children, Ama, Kojo and Nina on this great loss.
I am however, comforted by the information I received from his wife Nene that he died peacefully in his sleep.
