Delete My Skype Account – This will teach you how to delete a Skype account. Before deleting your Skype account you should be aware that it is directly linked to your Microsoft account, which centralizes all of its services in a single account.
This means that by deleting one, all of the Microsoft-linked accounts will also be deleted. For example, when you delete your Skype account, you will no longer have access to your Outlook inbox, your Office applications online, your OneDrive documents, and you will not be able to open your Xbox Live GamerTag or access Windows.
How Can I Delete My Skype Account
If you no longer want to use Skype, but want to retain your Microsoft account, one solution is to erase your personal data from the Skype database. Your account will still exist, but you will be invisible on Skype and other users will be unable to find you. Continue reading to discover how to apply both methods.
You will need a computer to perform this task. Keep in mind that Microsoft won’t delete your Skype account until 60 days after you mark it for deletion.
Step1: Open the Microsoft account deletion page. Go to http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=523898. This will redirect you to a login page.
Step2: Enter your Skype login information. Type in your email address and password, then click Sign in. This is to verify that you’re the owner of the Skype account.
Step3: Select a verification option. Click either Text or Email, then type in the last four digits of your phone number or your full email address.
If you haven’t linked your phone to your Skype account yet, you’ll just see Email here.
Step4: Click Send code. It’s in the bottom-right corner of the window. Clicking this will prompt Microsoft to text or email a code to the number or email address.
Step5: Retrieve your verification code. Depending on the option you selected above, the way to do this will vary:
Text – Open your phone’s messages app, then tap the message from Microsoft (usually a six-digit number). The seven-digit verification code is in the “Use ####### as Microsoft account security code” text.
Email – Open your email account, click the email from Microsoft entitled “Microsoft account security code”, and review the seven-digit number next to the “Security code:” heading in the middle of the email. Check the “Updates” folder and the “Spam” folder if you don’t see this email within a few minutes.
Step6: Enter your code. Type your code into the “Code” text field near the bottom of the window.
Step7: Click Verify. It’s a blue button in the bottom-right corner of the window. This will take you to the “Ready to close” page.
You may have to click the No thanks link on the following page before you arrive at the “Ready to close” page.
Step8: Click Next. It’s in the bottom-left corner of the “Make sure [name] is ready to close” page.
Be sure to read through this page’s requirements for closing an account.
Step9: Check each box on the page. Click the checkbox to the left of each effect of closure on the page.
Step10: Select a reason for closing the account. Click the Select a reason drop-down box at the bottom of the page, then click a reason for closing your account.
Just click My reason isn’t listed in the drop-down menu if you don’t have a reason.
Step11: Click Mark account for closure. This blue button is in the bottom-left corner of the page. Doing so will mark your Skype account for deletion. 60 days after you do this, your Skype account will be permanently deleted.
If Mark account for closure is greyed out, you didn’t check all of the boxes and/or you didn’t select a reason for closing your account.
