ASUU STRIKE NOT ENDING SOON

The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) has categorically declared that the ongoing strike will not end soon.

This was seen in a statement released by the National President of the Union, Professor Abiodun Ogunyemi on the reasons of the strike.

The industrial action was a product of the Federal Government’s refusal to meet so many agreed terms with the ASUU.

Among the major reasons ASUU has embarked on industrial action were; revatilisation and funding of universities including unpaid accumulated earned academic allowances.

Other reasons are release of University staff pension company license among other issues.

The association accused the Buhari’s administration of eating its words by asking Nigerian universities to become one of the leading universities of the world without making the same commitments responsive and responsible governments in the world are making to education.

ATTENTION PLS!!!: OBAMA SCHOLARSHIP

Earlier on, newsmen gathered that the Federal Government had accused ASUU of using the strike to instigate political crisis.

In his response at Ibadan after the congress of the union, Omole, who is the Chairman of ASUU Ibadan chapter said:

To us, the Federal Government is the one that is being political with the truth by becoming untrustworthy in the agreement we signed…

How can ASUU strike be political when there are matters that you as government signed and yet failed to fullfil?

By this information, it means that the industrial action will continue until the federal government complies with all the requirements of ASUU.

Ordinarily, this strike will keep Nigerian students off the classroom and lure them into so many social vices.

We therefore call on the Federal Government to carefully look into the ASUU strike and meet their demands.
